How can I fix my 18-month old Hayter 41 petrol (Briggs and Stratton) power-driven lawnmower?
Recently it started 'put-putting' and not running too smoothly. It starts OK but seems to be running too rich as the spark plug gets black very quickly. I have suspected that the carburettor needs adjusting, but with it being so new...?
More recently it has started smoking for about a minute after I start it and some oil shoots out of the exhaust.
I have checked the oil and it is a couple of centimetres over the maximum. Would this cause any of the problems I have mentioned.
Does anyone have an suggestions as to the cause of the problem and more importantly, how I can fix it myself without shelling out for a repair?

P.S. I can't locate the receipt so getting it repaired under warranty could prove to be problematic.
take it to a mechanic
or just get a new one coz repairing it might be more expensive
