what to do with a lawn mower in winter?
what do you have to do before storing a lawn mower for the winter? i live in canada and it gets to an average of -25'c here. apart from disconnecting the spark plug what else do i have to do? do i have to waste all the gasoline or take out the oil or anything like that? all help will be appreciated
You can either run the mower until the gas tank is empty and the mower quits or you can drain the gas into a bucket or pan or whatever and then put the gas in your car, drain the gas by siphoning it out of the tank do not tilt the mower and pour it out, that will result in oil getting into places you do not want it to get into, especially the carburetor. You will still want to start the mower and let it run until it quits, probably not very long. After it quits, I remove the spark plug and give it a long shot of wd-40 into the spark plug hole, this lubricates the piston and rings pretty good, then replace the spark plug. then WITHOUT replacing the spark plug wire, give the rope a couple of good pulls or if electric, give it a good three of four second crank, replace the spark plug wire and store it for the winter. Next spring, drain the old oil and refill it, both oil and gas and again remove the spark plug and give it a good shot of wd-40, this time replace the spark plug wire and start it up and go mowing.
