What kind of fruit or citrus trees can you grow in the Houston area?
I am aware of lemon trees and grapefruit being grown in Houston climate, but wanted to know what else grows favorably in this area?
You should also be fine with many orange varieties. Loquats are also good, as are figs, though these arent citrus.
Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

Planting fruit trees in the garden
Planting fruit trees in your garden has many advantages and many benefits like Good smells in the blooming seasons and when fruits are ripened and nice foliage colors.
Choosing fruit trees in a clever way will give us an endless joy almost all year Round by having fruits on the trees whenever we visit the garden.
-  The sight of fruit trees is very colorful and changing through the seasons. Having fruit trees in the garden attracts many birds, butterflies and  other creatures who serve the process of pollinating and propagation.
Before choosing the right trees for the garden, it is important to find out if there is any sensitivity or any allergy in the family like for olive trees Or the smell of the guiava tree.
The considerations in choosing fruit trees for the privet garden:
- 1.   Planting space – fruit trees need a space in which they will have at least              3x3 meters or 4x5 for each tree.
- The preferences of the family members on which fruits they like.
- 3. Â Â The continuity of fruit in the garden along the seasons.
- Trees which are ever green or deciduous.
- The resistibility against pests and diseases without or little treatments.
Fruit trees which are recommended by our nursary :                                        Citrus trees – oranges, lemons, grapefruits, limes, limequats, Kumquats, pomelos and others.
Citrus trees should be planted where there is no severe wind. It is nice to have citrus trees in the garden. The flowers have a wonderful smell and the sight of the blooming tree is very lovely.
The color of the fruit is nice and long lasting. Usually the fruits do not fall on the ground if they are picked in time.
Other fruit trees shrubs recommended for the garden are: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â feijoa, guiava, pitanga.
The nice thing about those fruit trees is the long period of time the fruits ripen, the nice flowers they bare before and the variety of green leaves.
If the garden is large, other trees are good as well, like: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Figs and other deciduous fruit trees.
If there is a place with no wind in the garden, it will be nice to plant banana.
