How can I sell at the door?
I just got a job as a door to door canvasser working for a company that installs interlocking paving stones for driveways, patios, walkways, retaining walls, pillars, stairs, etc. They also install synthetic turf, and outdoor lighting features.
Paving jobs have 25 year warrantee. Turf has ten. It is actually a really nice product.
My job isn't to even sell this stuff- I just have to knock on the door and get someone to agree to an hour long consultation with one of our design consultants. The consultation is free and no obligation. The specialist finds out what job the customer wants done, than takes a snapshot of the driveway or patio or whatnot and uses computer imaging to show customer what it would look like completed.
I have a script but... Does anyone have any tips? I am not having any luck with this... any help from canvassers or solicitors would be helpful. Thanks.
Try wearing different clothes. One day you can be in a dark suit and tie. Then use a light-colored sportcoat. Next day in a Polo shirt. Then in blue jeans like you are a working man. Don't stand near the door when it is opened. And be sure you have something interesting to leave them if no one is home. Most people will take a minute to read.
If the pavers look nice, people will buy them.

Add Style And Security With Patio Lights
Let’s face it - the world is not an enchanted fairy tale place where everyone gets along. Crime is as much a reality today, if not more so, as it ever was. Even if you live in a respectable neighbourhood you could still be a target, perhaps more so. Burglars and thieves are, in the main, opportunists and predators who will strike where there are easy pickings. Stories abound of the ladder outside or the open bathroom window that enabled a criminal to gain access to a house.
One proven method of deterring burglars is the use of a security light. One reason burglars so often attempt to enter through the back of the house is to avoid being spotted. A security light at once implies that the owners of the house have considered security and also makes the would-be burglar feel very exposed. This will deter the vast majority burglars who will move on the easier prey elsewhere.
The use of a security light implies a stark, cold lighting effect completely unsuited to a relaxed patio atmosphere, but this needn’t be the case. You can add automatic sensor equipment to most types of patio lights so they can work as both atmospheric lighting for you and a burglar deterrent for the house while you sleep. The good things is this can be done very cheaply, far cheaper than installing a security system, and it still provides a good basic first line of defence against crime.
These days, since solar technology has become more widely available, you now have solar alternatives to standard electric lights. This is a perfect use for them and will at once shave money off your electric bill while giving you the peace of mind that comes with not wasting energy unnecessarily. This only becomes more important as time moves on and the awareness of the environment and our related energy issues grow more urgent.
Aside from the deep concerns of crime or our effect on the Earth, you should remember that above all, patio lights can add real sparkle to a patio. There are so many shapes and sizes to choose from, that you are sure to find something that suits whatever kind of ambience you want to create. Should you choose solar patio lights with a sensor fitted, then you can do something for Mother Nature and your home security too into the bargain.
