Fuel Pump for small engine.?
So i am getting a rm 80cc (1978) motor for my go kart. I am lost on how to get fuel to the motor because i cant put the gas tank above the motor. So I looked into Go kart fuel pumps but i am not sure if i have a "vacuum impulse from the crankcase" What ever that means. So can you help me by telling me if i have a " vacuum impulse from the crankcase" or another solution.
Please help me.
Actually, Vacuum Impulse just means that the engine will generate a vacuum between the carburetor and the intake circuit, in pulses, so it's not a steady vacuum - in this case, the intake circuit is the intake valve.
Yes your engine would indeed have this type of a vacuum pulse.
Plumbing this type of system would be close to a nightmare ... additionally an engine that small may not produce enough vacuum to suit a small fuel pump - so I can assure you it would not be easy.
There are small engine websites out there that will help you determine at what height the fuel tank needs to be, in order to achieve a proper flow rate of fuel to the carb, so you can have a gravity fed system.
For the record about impulse vacuum pulses and 2-stroke engines.
here's an example, my 1987 Arctic Cat El Tigre` 530cc has dual vacuum impulse fuel pumps, one for each cylinder (each carburetor) - it also has an oil injection pump.
It's neither pre-mixed, nor is it gravity fed, it is a 2-stroke, and it does use vacuum impulse fuel pumps.
